Not everyone realizes that AARP (formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons) has an auto and home insurance program through The Hartford. They offer great coverage at competitive rates geared towards their members.
AARP Auto Insurance offers a unique blend of benefits for their retired members. Availability of features and benefits varies from state to state but by getting a quote you can see what is offered. They offer first accident forgiveness which is a great benefit for otherwise very safe drivers. Lifetime renewability is available where you do not have to worry about losing your auto insurance protection.
Known as a disappearing deductible, AARP reduces your collision deductible by $150 if a clean driving record is maintained. They even continue to drop your deductible by $50 for each additional year you keep a safe driving record until it reaches $0. The auto insurance feature called RecoverCare helps pay for the cost of services in the home such as cleaning, shopping and transportation if you are hurt in a car accident. It’s these types of unique benefits that makes AARP auto insurance a great buy. They truly look out for their members and that is worth your time and money.

One of the major factors auto insurance companies use when determining your car insurance rates is your driving record. According to the article “Are You Driving Distracted, and is Your Auto Insurance Suffering” published on lexch.com, even non-fatal crashes are bad to have on your driving record. Driving safely can end up saving you a lot of money in the long run.
According to Distraction.gov, which is the official US Government site for distracted driving, there are 3 main types of distractions which include visual, manual and cognitive. In 2008, distracted drivers caused about 5870 fatal car crashes. This is a staggering statistic which should motivate us all to stop unnecessary distractions while driving such as talking on our phone, texting, or eating. Even having a conversation with other passengers can distract you from focusing on the road.
Before you get car insurance quotes, be sure to understand where your driving record stands. Accidents do fall off your record over time as well as tickets and even some DUI’s. But it’s important to note that the safer you drive, the less likely you are to be in an accident and pay higher car insurance rates. Not to mention you may save lives, including your own and friends and family, if you are consistently a very safe driver. There are so many reasons to drive safe, and no good reason to risk it and distract yourself from paying constant attention to the road.

According to the article “Mandatory Auto Insurance Hits Wisconsin” by Hilary Dickinson on beloitdailynews.com, as of Tuesday Wisconsin drivers face a $500 fine maximum if they are caught driving without auto insurance. This is a big change for Wisconsin auto insurance policy holders.
Wisconsin is the 49th state to make auto insurance mandatory and some auto insurance agents question whether or not the new law will be effective. The new law requires drivers to carry proof of insurance with them when they are driving and one policy card should be kept in the vehicle at all times. If a driver is pulled over and has insurance, but cannot prove it with a policy card then they may face a ticket.
Some experts wonder if the fines are going to be enough of an incentive for them to purchase auto insurance. With auto insurance rates for high risk drivers being relatively high, it may be cheaper for them to take the risk of not having insurance at all. There hasn’t been a huge increase in Wisconsin drivers shopping for auto insurance. People who would abide such law already have auto insurance because it’s the responsible thing to do since Wisconsin already mandates drivers to be responsible for an accident financially.

California auto insurance companies continue to debate Prop 17. According to the article “Consumer Advocates, Insurers Battle Over Prop 17″ by Sue Kwon on cbs5.com The Yes on Prop 17 campaign is spending millions in ads to spread their message.
With Prop 17, the clean record discount would follow the driver if they chose to switch companies. Insurance broker, John Morton, with the Alliance of Insurance Agents and Brokers wants the measure to pass. He believes it’s a win-win for his clients. He sees the good driver discount as something a driver should have ownership over regardless of what company they go with. Morton also thinks Prop 17 will cause companies to compete and drive down California auto insurance quotes.
The Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California, Richard Holober, believes the opposite will happen. California auto insurance companies, such as Infinity Auto Insurance, may end up charging more to certain customers including students, military, unemployed, or low-income drivers because they break continuous coverage within 90 days. This is detrimental to drivers in these groups who may have perfect driving records and otherwise would not get their rates raised on them.

State Farm auto insurance is a proud supporter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), whose primary mission is to put an end to drunk driving and support victims of such crimes. They also fight to put an end to underage drinking. State Farm is a national sponsor and they share very similar values in educating youth about the dangers of drinking.
“Protecting You/Protecting Me” is a comprehensive program offered through MADD which uses an approach to stop underage drinking through effective, educational efforts to stop the access of alcohol to our youth. This excellent program is a research-based plan which is nationally recognized nationally. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention named it a “Model Program”.
State Farm and Meharry Medical College also came together to research why seat belt and child safety is lower among African Americans. They plan on using the findings to influence legislation to further support cultural public awareness programs.
Driver safety continues to be a priority of State Farm. If you choose to disregard any safety provisions put forth by the law, then not only are you putting yourself and other drivers lives at risk but you are increasing your chances of paying higher auto insurance rates or having to carry SR-22 insurance. There are no benefits to breaking the law when it comes to driving.

JD Power’s 2009 National Auto Insurance Study offers auto insurance provider ratings for a wide variety of insurers such as Encompass Car Insurance. Encompass rated average which is good considering it’s a smaller company.
In the category of overall satisfaction, Encompass ranked average. The category of contacting the insurer also ranked average. Policy offerings received two stars which is the second to worst rating to receive. Billing payment was considered average and pricing received two stars. Overall the company achieved an average ranking.
It’s convenient that JD Power is ranking smaller companies, but other smaller insurers such as Dairyland Insurance are not included in the ranking report. You can still receive reviews on these smaller companies through review websites or the Better Business Bureau. As you shop around for car insurance you want to consider how other people view their experience with the company. Price is obviously very important but you need to understand what you are getting for the price quoted.

Bristol West Auto Insurance, along with many other auto insurance companies are getting hit with fraudulent claims. According to the article “Report: Staged Car Wrecks On the Rise” by James Hart on blogs.kansascity.com, there has been a 40% jump in car accidents since 2007 staged on purpose with the sole purpose of ripping off insurers like Bristol West. This statistic comes from a report from The National Crime Insurance Bureau.
Many of the fraud accidents are committed by all knowing parties, but sometimes the perpetrators target innocent drivers. To avoid becoming a target, follow these simple tips:
- Avoid tailgating
- Always call the police immediately if you are involved in an accident
- Use your phone camera to document any damage as soon as it happens
- Never admit fault
Protecting yourself on the road is very important and knowing this type of fraud is going on can help you be more prepared if you are involved in an accident. Avoiding the accident altogether is obviously ideal so your car insurance quotes are not affected.

According to the press release “Expect to See Increase in Auto Insurance Rates” found on emailwire.com, Texas auto insurance quotes will be seeing an increase in the near future. States such as Texas and Maryland are raising minimum coverage requirements and there are more states expected to follow.
This increase in minimum coverage requirements increases the chance of higher premiums. This is in addition to the increasing costs of health care coverage for those injured in car accidents, and higher premiums. The cost of health care increasing is likely to affect drivers’ auto insurance policies over time, and consumers should be prepared.
Because of the potential for increased costs, it’s a good time to compare auto insurance. It’s a good idea to get multiple quotes from numerous companies to ensure you receive a competitive price. Another way to counteract the potential increases is to adjust deductibles and policy offerings. In general, the higher the deductible, the lower the cost of a policy. If you take the highest deductible you can afford you may see a dramatic change in your auto insurance rates.

Nationwide Auto Insurance ranked well in JD Power’s recent report ranking various auto insurance companies across the nation. The 2009 National Auto Insurance Study awarded Amica Mutual as the highest ranked, but it’s important to know how well your specific carrier ranked.
Nationwide received an average ranking in all categories except pricing where it ranked slightly below average. Pricing is very customer specific though so getting a quote is still very much worth your time. In the other categories of overall satisfaction, contacting the insurer, policy offerings, and billing & payment they are considered average.
View more detailed reporting on JD Power’s website, but note that JD Power Consumer Center Ratings may not include all of the information used to figure JD Power and Associates Awards. Using this type of report can be extremely helpful as you get various quotes from auto insurance companies.
