Auto Insurance Rates May Encourage the Uninsured

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

According to the article “Car Insurance Scofflaws Raise Health Mandate Doubt” by Kristen Wyatt from the Associated Press found on Google, thousands of people on the road do not carry auto insurance even though most states require it.  This raises the question of the effectiveness of a health insurance mandate working.  It is something Congress continues to consider.

There have been auto insurance mandates out there for about 40 years and the insurance industry says it has not necessarily made the roads safer nor has it lowered auto insurance rates.  The President and CEO of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America believes that a driver’s personal financial situation is a better indicator of whether or not they will carry auto insurance.  High auto insurance rates may force a driver who is strapped for cash to go uninsured.

States with higher poverty levels have a similar correlation with the amount of uninsured drivers are on the road.  People cut back on auto insurance when they can’t afford it and there is a real possibility that if they make health insurance a requirement the same thing will happen.  People cut costs where they can in times of trouble and although health insurance and auto insurance are both highly important coverages, people risk going without it to put food on the table and keep water in their home.

Auto Insurance Quotes Should Be Compared

Friday, November 20th, 2009

There are 6 main reasons why you should shop around for auto insurance quotes according to the article “305 Compelling Reasons To Compare Car Insurance” by Neil Faulkner on lovemoney.com.

Reason number 1 is that you may get ripped off if you don’t shop around for auto insurance quotes.  The article points out that one insurer to another can often be 7 times the cost.  Reason 2 is that prices vary widely from one company to another.  It’s not just the difference from company to company, but price varies widely from year to year as your profile and demographic changes.

The 3rd reason points out that loyalty does not pay in the auto insurance industry.  If insurance is getting cheaper in the market, your price will stay the same if you do not request a recalculation.  Reason 4 discusses the value of your actual policy.  It’s important to ensure you have the best benefits possible in your policy.  Reason 5 is that rates may be increasing so you want to lock into a low rate when you can.  And reason 6 is obvious, but extremely important…you will save money if you shop around for auto insurance quotes.  The internet makes this quick and simple so there is no reason you shouldn’t take advantage of the opportunity to compare rates.

Auto Insurance Quotes for Taxi Drivers

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Taxi auto insurance is extremely important for taxi drivers who want to financially protect themselves and their business.  According to the article “Taxi Drivers Can Protect Business With Taxi Insurance” from Insurance Agents Press Release on 1888pressrelease.com, taxi insurance is the only policy that’s designed to protect the taxi company.

The article points out that over 2 million passengers are injured in the taxi industry which is why it’s so crucial for these drivers to have coverage.  Taxi insurance provides options that are specifically designed for taxi cabs.  Liability coverage is available which protects the taxi company, the driver, as well as the taxi company’s assets.  Comprehensive coverage is also available which protects in case of vandalism, theft, fire or other damages that may be caused by an accident.

To qualify for a taxi insurance policy companies must have taxis that function as fare based and that keep up with maintenance.  Drivers must be between the ages of 25 and 65 and they need more than 2 years of driving experience in the US and have a current, valid driver license.  You can receive taxi auto insurance quotes online or contact an insurance agent.

Auto Insurance Companies to Offer Pay-As-You-Drive

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

According to the article “Pay-as-you-drive auto insurance gets green light” by Kelly Johnson from msn.com, California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced Friday that the state Office of Administration Law has passed regulations which allow auto insurance companies to base rates on how much drivers drive and they are now in effect.

Poizner opposed the pay-as-you-drive regulation a year ago, but now he believes it’s an innovative way to give California drivers rewards for driving less.  This will ultimately lead to lower auto insurance, less air pollution and eventually less dependence on foreign oil.

The Association of California Insurance Companies supports the new regulation calling it “pro-consumer”.  The new regulation will give auto insurance companies and drivers an additional tool to assure that auto insurance rates reflect the driver’s actual risk of getting into an accident and filing a claim.  Insurers will have the option to offer estimated mileage, but they will now also have the option to offer verified mileage plans.

Arizona Auto Insurance and New Law

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

As of October 1, there was a new Arizona auto insurance law implemented according to an article by Adam Rolnick found on usprwire.com about Oasis Insurance.  The bill was passed the previous legislative session and it’s known as HB2224.

October 1 and going forward judges are required to assign penalties for Arizona drivers who don’t carry auto insurance coverage.  About 87% of tickets that were issued because drivers were not carrying insurance were dismissed or the fines were lowered.  The new law says there will be no dismissal of these charges.

The first offense will carry an approximately $720 penalty which cannot be waived.  About $970 will be the fine for second time offenders.    If you are caught a third time driving without auto insurance the fine will be up to $1200 and your license will be suspended for a year.  Not only will your license be suspended but you will be required to carry SR22 insurance documentation once you get your license back.

Before this law was passed, Arizona residents who were caught driving without insurance would often purchase the insurance before the court date and show their proof upon the judge’s request.  The new law says this will not be possible going forward and the fines still must be paid.

Auto Insurance Being Dropped Because of Economy

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

As the unemployment rate increases and the state of the economy continues, more and more people are expected to drop their auto insurance.  This is according to the article “More Motorists Expected To Drive Without an Auto Insurance Policy” by John Pirro found on live-pr.com.

The article states that many people see a strong correlation between unemployment rates and the number of people driving without auto insurance.  According to a study from the Insurance Research Council, about one in six drivers will be driving without auto insurance by 2010.  One of the main problems with this trend is that responsible drivers who follow the law and carry the proper auto insurance coverage end up paying more to account for accidents caused by uninsured motorists.

The consequences for driving without auto insurance are getting harsher.  For example, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will suspend a driver’s vehicle registration if they are caught without proof of insurance.  Many of these people driving around uninsured believe they simply cannot afford the month to month cost of carrying auto insurance, but the truth is that it can end up costing you a lot more money in the long run if you are in an accident or caught driving uninsured.

Auto Insurance Quotes Are Highly Affected By DUI’s

Friday, October 9th, 2009

According to the article “The Effects of a DUI on Car Insurance Quotes” by insuranceagents.com, auto insurance quotes can skyrocket after a Driving Under the Influence violation is on your record.

Not only will a DUI on your record cause your auto insurance quotes to increase, but your license may be suspended and your current auto insurance policy may be cancelled, leaving you in a tough spot to find new auto insurance fast.

There is a zero tolerance for drinking and driving in the United States because of how terribly dangerous it is to the driver, passengers and other people driving on the road.  Not only are you putting lives at risk if you drink and drive, but you are setting yourself up for a potentially very expensive road as well as possible jail time.

Auto Insurance Companies Have Better Service

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

According to the article “Auto Insurance Study Released” on bestsyndication.com, courtesy of  rapidautoinsurance.org, JD Power and Associates recently released their 2009 Auto Insurance Satisfaction Study.  The good news for auto insurance companies and consumers is that customer satisfaction is up.

JD Power and Associates believes the increase in customer satisfaction is due to the lower auto insurance rates for 2009.  This year’s study results are a 5 year high for the industry and surprisingly customer satisfaction was declining at the beginning of the recession.

As rates begin to raise and auto insurance companies give higher quotes it is very possible and likely that customer satisfaction will begin to decline.  But there are other reasons the 2009 study had such good results.  Many auto insurance companies have started to consider some customer requests such as reliable phone numbers and websites.  Most companies continue to strive to make customer satisfaction a priority.

Proof of Auto Insurance in Arizona

Friday, September 25th, 2009

It is against the law to drive without auto insurance in Arizona and most of the country.  You also must carry proof of insurance.  According to the article “Proof of auto insurance requirements changing in Arizona” by Delane Cleveland on fox11az.com, the law is getting stricter when it comes to carrying proof of Arizona auto insurance

Tony Riojas, the presiding magistrate for Tucson City Court says no proof of insurance is one of the most common citations that come through court.  Currently, if someone has to go to court to prove insurance, charges are often dropped or reduced but starting October 1 that will change.  Before you can get any reduction in fine not only must you show proof of insurance but you will also need to prove that you have not gotten an insurance violation within the past two years, or only one citation in the past three years.

Repeat offenders can face fines up to $1,000.  Governor Jan Brewer signed the bill back in July to approve these provisions and insurance companies across Arizona approved.  They believe this bill will reduce the number of uninsured drivers on the road.
