American Commerce Gives Peace of Mind

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Auto insurance companies are constantly changing their policies to compete with other insurers and to ensure they are offering the most up-to-date benefits.  There are many optional benefits that insurance companies use as leverage such as road side assistance, online bill pay and even pet insurance.  American Commerce has numerous unique policies which helps them to stand out.

One of the more interesting policies offered by American Commerce is called the Peace of Mind Package.  This is an optional upgrade to any auto insurance policy that offers immediate accident forgiveness from day one, an automatic deductible credit and the ability to drop your deductible up to $500 for remaining accident free.  This really gives a huge incentive for good drivers to gravitate towards American Commerce.  It makes sense that unique benefits will attract more customers.

Another policy option they offer is called AutoMaster Plus.  This is available for upgrade on standard policies and it provides some extended benefits.  Some of these additional benefits include covering items such as computers, cell phones, child safety seats, pet injury, glass chip and personal belongings.  It can also include death benefits and even more.  Check with your auto insurance company to see how your benefits stack up.

Auto Insurance Companies Still Suing Toyota

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Toyota is still feeling the brunt from their huge recall of defective cars across the nation.  Seven auto insurance companies are filing suit against Toyota Motor Corporation to retrieve funds they paid out in claims cause by the accidents attributed to the Toyota cars’ defects.  This is according to the article “Seven Additional Car Insurers Sue Toyota” by Naota Hayashi on Automobile.com.

RIght now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into claims that about 89 accident deaths since 2000 may have resulted from sudden acceleration in certain Toyota cars.  Toyota could face up to $10 billion in civil liability in the US courts from wrongful death, consumer fraud, and personal injury.

A recent litigation filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, makes claims related to those in other cases filed in other areas that Toyota disregarded and tried to hide the defect that caused several engines to accelerate, and did not put in a particular brake override technology that may have prevented crashes.  The seven auto insurance companies are requesting minimum compensatory damages of $188,000.

Encompass Car Insurance Ratings

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

JD Power’s 2009 National Auto Insurance Study offers auto insurance provider ratings for a wide variety of insurers such as Encompass Car Insurance.  Encompass rated average which is good considering it’s a smaller company.

In the category of overall satisfaction, Encompass ranked average.  The category of contacting the insurer also ranked average.  Policy offerings received two stars which is the second to worst rating to receive.  Billing payment was considered average and pricing received two stars.  Overall the company achieved an average ranking.

It’s convenient that JD Power is ranking smaller companies, but other smaller insurers such as Dairyland Insurance are not included in the ranking report.  You can still receive reviews on these smaller companies through review websites or the Better Business Bureau.  As you shop around for car insurance you want to consider how other people view their experience with the company.  Price is obviously very important but you need to understand what you are getting for the price quoted.

Big Lies Told to Auto Insurance Companies

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

A recently released report from Quality Planning Corp in San Francisco shows that auto insurance companies lost about $15.9 billion in 2008 from premium leakage.  Premium leakage is the loss of revenue because of the inability of insurance companies to keep track of their customers’ situations that influence rates.  This number is about 10% of the total $167 billion in personal auto premiums written.  This is according to the article “The 5 Biggest Lies Told to Car Insurance Companies” by Barbara Marquand on insure.com.

Lying about small information to get a better auto insurance quote may seem harmless but it could mean trouble for you down the road.  Some of the lies told to insurers include under-estimating the number of miles driven, not reporting all the drivers in the household, not giving the correct garage location, claiming discounts that no longer apply, and misstating how the car is used.

You should avoid misstating information when getting your auto insurance quote, not only because it increases rates for everyone over time, but the insurance company could very well find out.  According to Quality Planning every 1% reduction in rating error can cause a 20% profit gain.  This means that it’s worth the insurer’s time to do their homework and ensure their customers are being honest.  The information you give them may end up getting scrutinized so safe yourself the trouble and just be upfront from the start.
