The Allmerica Financial Corporation is a property and casualty insurance company, formed after the now-defunct State Mutual Life Insurance Company became a public company in 1995. In 2005, the company sold its life insurance assets to the Hanover, which subsequently changed its name to the Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. Best, while The Hanover is rated A- by Standard & Poor's and an A3 by Moody's. In 2010, the company reported a growth in written premiums of 17% and increased its stock value by over 10%.
